Crypto Glossary of Terms

Are you new to Cryptocurrency? Has someone given you an acronym and you've searched for it on CoinMarketCap thinking it's a Crypto, only to later find out that it's a commonly used abbreviation?

Well, here's a list of acronyms/abbreviations and what they mean!


2FA - Two Factor Authentication

AMM - Automated Market Maker

APY - Annual Percentage Yield

APR - Annual Percentage Return

ATH - All time high

Burn - To burn tokens means to take them out of circulation, therefore making the token more scarce and reducing the overall circulating supply.

BIA - BlockFi Interest Account

CEX - Centralised Exchange

DAO - Decentralised Autonomous Organisation

DeFi - Decentralised Finance

DEX - Decentralised Exchange

Diamond Hands - Someone who holds adamantly. Became a popular term used on wallstreetbets for stocks but is now used universally.

DYOR - Do Your Own Research

FOMO - Fear of Missing Out

FUD - Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt

HODL - To hold onto a coin/token and not sell. A misspelling of Hold.

ICO - Initial Coin Offering

IDO - Initial Dex Offering

MM - MetaMask

NFA - Not Financial Advice

NFT - Non-Fungible Token

Paper Hands - Someone who sells too early. This person exits a position or folds because the risk it too high and they can't take the pressure of holding, hence the term diamond hands.

PCS - PancakeSwap

POS - Proof of Stake

POW - Proof of Work

ROI - Return on Investment

Whitelisted - This generally means that your wallet address is approved to purchase a token. You may be whitelisted for a number of reasons such as meeting a specific requirement or winning a competition.


BNB - Binance Coin

BTC - Bitcoin

ETH - Ethereum
